Turbulent fluxes

Spacebased Turbulent Fluxes

image

Evaporation (E), or latent heat flux (LH), is directly retrieved from the 12 channels of AMSR-E brightness temperature, based on a statistical model using support vector regression (SVR, Xie et al. 2008). Details of the methodology to retrieve E can be found in Liu and Xie (2013). The image shows that, validated using buoy data, the daily mean values of the direct retrieval method reduce the root-mean-square difference by half from the bulk parameterization method.
